Rotary Technology Tournament - Gold Award Winners

Our students won the Gold Award at the Rotary Technology Tournament earlier this week.

Mr Firth, Head of Technology sent the below email to say how proud he and the teachers are of our students. We wanted to share this with you.

"Working in teams of four, our twelve students competed against approximately 25 other teams from a variety of Leeds schools, to design and manufacture a scaled 'satellite' launching prototype. Students were judged on the accuracy, consistency and height of their 'satellite' launches, alongside an accompanying design portfolio. They had no prior knowledge of the challenge and had to work independently all day, with no input from any adults.

The winning team consisted of James, George, Katie and Hannah. Their prototype used rubber bands to launch a golf ball through a 30cm diameter hoop, 5 metres high and return back passing through the very same hoop!

We also took Ariana, Dylan, Matthew, Molly, Lucy, Jessica and Amit who all represented the school and department fantastically and were unlucky to not bring a trophy home for themselves.

If you see these students around, please give them a huge pat on the back and I am sure they will be very keen to tell you of their exploits!"
