Y12 FutureJob Programme

A number of our Y12 students recently took part in a FutureJobs Programme to help them understand the world of work. The programme is a fully funded service brought to the school by Aspire-igen, Leeds City Region LEP and the European Social Fund.

A team of 9 qualified advisors visited our school. They carried out individual guidance sessions with each student. This enabled them to find out the students’ level of understanding, awareness and confidence in their choices for possible future career paths. Each young person was then given an individual action plan to help them move forward and prepare them for the future. The students then attended a FutureJobs Event, which included a number of activities offering support and help to fill in gaps in knowledge and understanding.

Visitors from Leeds Beckett University, Bradford University, Leeds City Council, The Apprentice Finder and the National Citizen Service supported the 9 advisors at the event.

Some of the activities included:

• Information on Apprenticeships

• Labour Market Information - understanding jobs now and in the future

• Self-Employment - developing entrepreneurial spirit

• Employer Expectations

• Pathways to further and higher education

The final part of the FutureJobs programme will see some students being offered a meaningful work placement with local, national and international employers at the end of June.
